Computers That Can Think For Themselves?

Guardian: Coming to screens soon: a computer that thinks for itself

Within a decade people could have proper conversations with their computers, wheelchairs could be controlled by thought and cars could stop drivers having accidents. This is the prediction of a government-sponsored group of scientists which has spent the past year and a half looking at ways to build computers that can think for themselves.

The cognitive computers predicted by the project will be able to react to the unexpected and deal with the inconsistencies of human beings: they will make our interactions with technology seamless. If they work perfectly, we will not even know we are dealing with computers.

They will probably go into production around about the same time as hover boards and flying cars.
