WNBC: Suicide Captured On Videotape Turns Up On Porn Site
Police were investigating how a videotape that captured a suicide at a Bronx housing development later appeared on a pornographic Web site.
Police learned of the Web site after a relative of the man who committed suicide notified them, New York Police Department spokesman Paul Browne said Wednesday. Police were trying to track down the Web site's owner and determine how the site acquired the video.
The video was recorded on a camera that is part of the closed-circuit Viper program in the city's public housing areas. The video was recorded March 16 and shows the man shooting himself in the head, Browne said.
The Internal Affairs Bureau was investigating the release of the video and was focusing on the officers who monitor the housing project cameras, police said. The images came from a digital camera and could have been e-mailed.
The man was identified by police as Paris Lane, 22, of Manhattan. Lane had gone to the Morris Houses to visit his girlfriend when he shot himself in the lobby. Police said they believe the victim was despondent over an argument with the girlfriend.
Police did not disclose the Web site's name or address.
The video has started to do the rounds on the Net and if you really want to see it it can be found here.
