The Times: Onion nets record winner £1,500
A retired engineer has broken the record for the world’s heaviest onion — weighing in at 16lb 8½oz (468g).
John Sifford, 66, from Romsley, West Midlands, beat the ten-year-old record of 15lb 15½oz (454g) at the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show. He received a £500 prize for the heaviest onion in the show, and a £1,000 bonus for breaking the record.
