Grenpeace has been fined £4,000 after its flagship damaged a coral reef it was trying to protect.

In an embarrassing blunder, Rainbow Warrior II ran into the World Heritage site at Tubbataha Reef Marine Park in the Philippines.

The environmental group blamed a faulty chart. A spokesman said : "It indicated we were a mile-and-a-half away when we ran aground."
