What Is The 1% Rule?
"It's an emerging rule of thumb that suggests that if you get a group of 100 people online then one will create content, 10 will "interact" with it (commenting or offering improvements) and the other 89 will just view it."
This is based on statistics from sites such as YouTube and Wikipedia in which the vast majority of people consume the information on a site with just a tiny minority of people creating the content.
Whilst I'm a content creator (or perhaps content regurgitator), I too am guilty of going to sites and simply consuming content rather than contributing.

Afraid I too am guilty of consuming and sometimes regurgitating off this site ....but it is one of my faves for interesting content ....carry on(y)

I have a very similar blog to A Welsh View.
Wouldn't us reposting and regurgitating content make us part of the 10% that are interacting?

For me it was an... evolution of laziness.
I used to have a website, got too lazy to update it regularly and dowgraded to visiting other sites and commenting. Eventually I'll get to the point where I can't even be bothered commenting, and just view.
Possibly I'll get too lazy to even bother with typing in URLS and will just sit on the sofa watching shows about the internet while eating bon-bons. We'll see.

Boy, does that sound like my office! Most of my co-workers never contribute. It's like working with sheep.

I have been one of the 89% of consumers on this site for a few years now. But this comment at least makes me part of the 10%.
