Banksy's Painted Elephant
Guerilla artis Banksy's latest installation includes a painted elephant. The poor pachyderm has been painted to match the wallpaper in the room that he was placed. Hopefully the paint is only temporay. Here's a closeup picture of the elephant.

Thats a real elephant!

Somebody needs to go there in the middle of the night and free that poor animal. Elephants are not meant to be in small rooms like that. Why don't we have more laws protecting animals from abuse?

It's fair to worry about the elephant, and I'm sure there was a handler there full time.
As far as performance art, it is pretty breath taking. Looking beyong the "elephant in the room" analogies, the fact that it is painted in an eastern print to permit another culture to be taken by western society for its own ends (in this case aesthetic), is typical of western society.
And what is never usually considered is that when you steal from other cultures (socially, financially or morally), they have a tendancy to crap on your carpet when you're not looking.

You guys are so worried about the elephant make news else where. You made someone change their art because it was unacceptable?
1st point: it was a temporary design and animal safe coloring for all you VMds! 2nd the elephant was only on duty till 5pm and was well taken care of as well as loved!
Humans and their F'd up assumptions!
Oh poor LA...you feed off of rumors.
