as being russian myself i know that salted dried fish is eatin when drinking beer or any kind of alcohol just like someone would eat nuts in the states, there isn't a particular fish to eat so there are always many variations. i will also point out that if it was just a case where someone would eat the fish plainly i would be against it also.
