Apple Unveils New iPods

Apple has unveiled a raft of new iPods in time for the Christmas season.

First up is the new thinner, but fatter iPod Nano. The Nano features an enhanced UI including Cover Flow for browsing through albums. It can also play videos, view photos and play games. A 4GB version will cost $149 and an 8GB version will cost $199.

Next up is the iPod Classic. It's thinner than the current iPod and sports an all metal case. Like the Nano, the Classic also has an enhanced UI and comes in larger flavours. For $249 you get an 80GB version and for $349 you get a whopping 160GB - the equivalent to 40,000 songs.

Finally, it's the much rumoured iPod Touch. It's basically a phone-less iPhone. It has much of the same features as the iPhone including Wi-Fi, a Safari browser and support for You Tube. It can also browse the entire iTunes store and once you've purchased a song you can play it immediately on the iPod and then sync it to your desktop. They've also teamed up with Starbucks so that when you hear a tune that you like playing in the store, you can download it immediately using your iPod.

An 8GB will set you back $299 and a 16GB $399. [via the live coverage at Engadget]

Time for an upgrade!

I know that the iphone was small on storage space due to the whole flash drive inside but now that it dosent have a phone, there should be no reason that they couldn't at least do an 30g or 80g touch. That was one of my main problems with the iphone. Im sure they can remedy this problem in the future.

Why all the free apple advertising? What's so great about an ipod or iphone.
Just the interface?

We had walkman's with the same functionality 20 years ago. And many mobile phones do exactly the same as the Iphone. They just don't have such a sleek GUI.

Apple is more like a religion than a commercial company.
And all the bloggers are their evangalists.

This post is spam and so are all the others. Free advertising for Apple because it's so ' cool'.

I wish I had all this functionality 20 years ago! And you're right that many phones and do the same things as the iPhone but as you say, they don't have a sleek GUI. And that's why so many people are buying the iPhone, because it allows you to do things in a different and maybe unique way.

I blogged about the new iPods because I love my iPod and would love to buy a new one.

I admire any company that can generate free publicity and Apple is one of the kings of getting people to talk about their products.

And by the way, I'm far from being an Apple fanboy. I'd class myself as a Nokia fanboy!

I am replacing my Nokia N800 with a 8GB iPod Touch. Even though it doesn't support Flash (yet) or JavaScript (yet) it has a far superior browser and runs much faster than Opera does on the N800. Also, it's damn smaller.

I understand and respect your reasons for posting this Robert, but please could you highlight the fact that EU customers are *yet again* going to pair an unfair premium for these products. That in my mind would balance the story. Also the iphone is perhaps NOT selling as Jobbs an co had hoped, which is reflected in the $200(33%) price drop 2 months after launch.
