Nifty! I don't think its pointless at all. I could see some real value in marketing this to people that like to have some music or maybe a movie or 2 to play while camping, at work, or on lunch.
or they could just buy a miniature TV or entertainment unit(such as portable DVD players, hand held game systems and "multimedia units"( that are basically mp3s with big screens)), that in some cases are cheaper (and often better) than Ipods anyway. I think it is a cool little project though , if you like to build things or tinker.

When I saw this on the site, I KID YOU NOT... the first thing I thought of was a close-up of a "Space: 1999" comlock. How sad is that?
