Amazingly, nobody was killed when a plane landed on top of another waiting to takeoff.

I don't fully understand what would cause this to happen (something to do with hot gas cooling and contracting) but it's very impressive.
This is like a scene from The Fog.
The New York Times has an article about how a man got shot 19 times by police and lived to tell the tale.
Sean Bell was at a club with two friends when five police officers who thought the men were armed open fire. Five shots were fired killing one of the men and wounding the other two. Bell was unfortunate enough to take 19 of the bullets. The diagram above shows the location of the bullets. The NYTimes has more.
As far as I know, we haven't got 'Fire' buttons in UK petrol stations.

This tangled mess is what remains of two huge cranes that were knocked over by a Chinese ship carrying similar cranes. The 40,000-tonne ship smashed into two of the £4-million cranes during high winds last weekend.
There's another video here along with another image of the wreckage.
The photo above show Joe Egan diving off an 80ft diving board at the Marin County Fair in Florida. It takes two seconds to hit the water at 60mph.
He's got a long way to go to beat the world record though which stands at 200ft. The diver who managed that broke his spine in the process. Link

A daredevil ex-SAS soldier is to attempt a record-breaking skydive — from 120,000ft. This would smash the previous record of 102,000ft set back in 1960 by US Air Force officer Joseph Kittinger (video).
He will freefall for seven minutes before opening his parachute, and could break the 770mph sound barrier as he hurtles towards the ground. No human has ever travelled at such a speed outside an aircraft — and Steve has no idea how his body will react.
He will need a pressurised space suit in temperatures of -100°C and risks going into an 800 revolutions per second spin. Link

A man who calls himself a tantric master broke his own world record by standing engulfed in ice for 72 minutes.
Wim Hof, 48, stood on a Manhattan street in a clear container filled with ice for an hour and 12 minutes Saturday. Hof said he survives by controlling his body temperature through tantric meditation. Link
Judging by the blood on this guy's t-shirt in the photo here, I would say he's just a little bit crazy.

Lloyd Gater had his garden shed demolished – by a block of ice from a plane’s toilet. Lloyd, 32, feared Armageddon when he heard an ear-splitting crash as he sat down to dinner with his family.
He ran into the garden to find the shed in ruins, and a chunk of ice the size of a television set embedded in the wreckage.
Builder Lloyd, a dad of two, said: “The ice was everywhere and bits of the shed were scattered all over the lawn.

A 53-year-old woman is lucky to have not lost her sight after a metal coat rack hangar got stuck in her eye.
Geri Rivero talked about the traumatic injury to her face and her remarkable recovery. She was at a holiday party when she stumbled and fell onto the coat rack.
Renowned New York Plastic Surgeon Henry Spinelli performed the emergency surgery on Rivero at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center.
The hanger went through the inferior region of her right eye into her ethmoid and maxillary sinus spaces and across her face. The hook of the hanger perforated her skull and eye socket.
Rivero was actually alert and oriented on arrival to the emergency room.
Dr. Spinelli used a high powered saw to cut the metal hook just below her eye.
Rivero was awake during that procedure. Then, under anesthesia, Dr. Spinelli surgically removed the hook from beneath her right eye and sinus cavity by cutting through her cheek and jaw bones and removing the knob through a surgical opening in her mouth.
She is now being seen as an out-patient and is doing exceedingly well, Dr. Spinelli said.
