Australian motocross star Robbie Madison jumped London's Tower Bridge in the early hours of this morning. Madison, holder of longest ever motorbike jump (350.7ft - 106.9m), performed the stunt as a pre-cursor for the Red Bull X-Fighters event which will attract around 17,000 visitors when it takes place in London’s Battersea Power Station on the 22nd August 2009. An unfinished luxury hotel in Beijing, China has gone up in flames after being showered with sparks from fireworks set off during a holiday celebration.
The entire 44-story Manadarin Oriental hotel has been engulfed in flames but there have been no reports of deaths or injuries.
The luxury hotel has been under construction of 6 or 7 years and was due to open later this year. AP Article [via]

A woman has appeared in court for carving her name into her lover's arm as he slept at her home after a drunken fling.
Dominique Fisher, 22, of Roebuck Close in Blackburn, used a craft knife to write her name on Wayne Robinson's arm. Mr Robinson told Preston Crown Court he had taken sleeping pills, had been drinking and was not awake during the incident on 14 June 2008. Ms Fisher was found guilty of one charge of unlawful wounding on Monday and is to be sentenced on 27 February. She had also slashed Mr Robinson's arm and shoulder and carved a star in his back during the attack.

An actor narrowly escaped death after slashing his throat on stage with a real knife, instead of a blunt stage-prop blade.
Daniel Hoevels was rushed to hospital with a deep slice to his throat which fortunately missed his main artery.
The audience is said to have applauded what they thought was a stunning special effect, and only realised something was wrong when the actor staggered off stage to receive treatment.
It is not known whether the incident was a mistake or a deliberate attack. Link

Meet the first and only licensed pilot in the United States with no arms. Jessica Cox used to have a fear of flying but to overcome it she went and got a pilots license and can now take off and land using her feet. [via]
